Will you pray about joining?

How I thank God for special friends like you that I can come to in times of great need.  For over forty-two years the New Life family has given those who are hurting and homeless a place to stay that they can call home.   Please review the enclosed 2014 Homeless Disaster Training Manual and see the wide variety of direct services that NLEC provides to those in need throughout mid-America.

Now New Life’s historical headquarters is surrounded by barricades that the city has placed around it to keep the homeless off the sidewalks.  As this happens downtown property owners blame those who come for shelter at NLEC for problems created by bar patrons on Washington Avenue.

On September 24, 2013 hearings before the St. Louis Board of Public Service began as a result of condominium owners at 1501 and 1511 Locust who signed petitions to try to shut down New Life’s housing services at 1411 Locust.  If this were to happen elderly people like Pamela and Ray along with Veterans like Mike and Eugene would be left to suffer alone.  These homeless people came to New Life for shelter because there is nowhere else they can go that would welcome them with a place to sleep at night.

Please earnestly pray for New Life Evangelistic Center at this time.  If downtown property owners succeed in getting the city of St. Louis to take away NLEC’s permit to provide shelter it would be devastating to the thousands of people like Trista, Rita, Rebecca, Karen and their children who come to the New Life shelter at 1411 Locust.

This is the most important and most expensive fight in the history of New Life.  In addition to this battle we must continue to meet the ongoing extensive needs of the hurting, hungry and homeless who come to us daily.

Because of this major battle, together with the daily needs of the hurting and homeless, I must ask you to pray about becoming a part of the Easter Pyramid of Hope.

The legal fees to defeat the effort to close the 1411 Locust shelter combined with the ongoing needs of the New Life Evangelistic Center require that we raise $70,000 by Easter.

It is urgent that I ask you to join me in praying that 221 caring people will come forth to provide the $70,000 that is urgently needed at this time.  Homeless and hurting people all over Mid-America are depending on your involvement this Easter.

Thank you for sharing and caring at this time of great need.

Yours in Christ,

Larry Rice
Founder, New Life Evangelistic Center

P.S. Not only does 1411 Locust provide emergency shelter, but it has become a home to over 65 trainees and staff who were previously homeless.  Please pray that as Christians celebrate Easter they will join the Pyramid of Hope and share a special gift to help save New Life’s right to shelter the homeless.  After all, Easter is the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ who said, “As often as you have done it for the least of these even so you have done it unto me.”
