News Release

Two acres of vacant land leased to New Life Evangelistic Center were condemned, but now the city of St. Louis has allowed it to be turned into a dump without New Life’s permission.

The Rev. Larry Rice will have a news conference at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Vandeventer and Interstate 44, where he was arrested in May after putting up a large tent for worship services and smaller tents for the homeless. The ministry discovered Monday that rock and gravel has been dumped there. Although the city wouldn’t allow a portable toilet to be put there in May, one sits there now for an illegal construction crew.

Why would the city drive the homeless off the ground, condemn the land, and then allow the Missouri Department of Transportation to use the private land that NLEC still leases? These and other issues will be addressed at the news conference.

Rice also will update the public on his lawsuit against the city for condemning the property and plans to reoccupy the ground in the near future.
