New Life Evangelistic Center’s 23rd Annual Night with the Homeless FAQ’s

  • Where will the Night with the Homeless be held?
    The event will be held at New Life Evangelistic Center, 1411 Locust Street, St. Louis, Missouri, 63103.  Our phone number is (314) 421-3020.
  • Why should I participate in the Night with the Homeless?
    To help others!  Ever walk by someone on the street and wish you could change his or her life instead of just throwing them some spare change?  here is your chance!
  • Is there a fee to participate in the Night with the Homeless?
    In the tradition of a walk-a-thon, participants are encouraged to have  family, friends, neighbors & co-workers sponsor them by the hour or for the entire night to help the homeless.  Anyone not wishing to seek sponsorships from family, friends, neighbors & co-workers can attend the event but we encourage you  to ask your loved ones and see how excited they will be to help you help the homeless!
  • What will my money go towards?
    All money collected for the Night with the Homeless will support programs to help the homeless and poor at New Life Evangelistic Center.
  • When should I turn in my donations?
    If collecting donations off-line (checks or cash), simply bring them with you to the Night with the Homeless and turn them in at Registration.  If you are collecting donations via credit or debit card, please create your personalized Night with the Homeless Team Webpage to help you gather sponsors or refer donors to the Team NLEC Sponsor Webpage.
    You can also help by collecting blankets, coats and care kits to hand out to the homeless the night of the event and on future nights of Winter Patrol.  These items can be brought to NLEC anytime prior to the event or you can bring them with you the night of the event.
  • How long does this event last?
    Registration opens at 5:30.  The event begins with a Rally at 6:00 p.m.  Experience Stations, Winter Patrol and a Prayer Service will follow.  The night should end between 11:30 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.  Each participant has the opportunity to continue their “homeless experience” by spending the night at New Life Evangelistic Center.  Participants will be directed to their sleeping location after the Prayer Service.  All overnight participants will leave by 6:00 a.m. on October 27th.
  • What are the sleeping arrangements?
    Participants continuing their “homeless experience” by spending the night at New Life Evangelistic Center will be accompanied to their sleeping location by Rev. Ray Redlich.  Rev. Ray will also be spending the night.
  • What if it rains?
    The Night with the Homeless will continue as planned.  The homeless sleep outside even in unfavorable weather, therefore, Winter Patrol groups will go out to the streets.  Please take this into consideration when dressing for the event.
  • Will the Night with the Homeless be safe?
    While the event does involve some interaction with homeless individuals, staff members or Winter Patrol guides will be with participants at all times.  Participants should keep in mind that later in the evening groups will go on “Winter Patrol”, which involves walking the streets of downtown St. Louis in search of homeless individuals. Participants should be aware of their surroundings at all times and should not break off from the group that they are assigned to.  The same safety measures should be taken while with your groups as if you were in the city alone.
  • Do participants have re-entry privileges?
    Yes. However, please remember that the schedule for the evening will continue as planned, so you should be aware of the activity times and locations.
  • Are bathrooms available?
    Yes, restrooms are available inside New Life Evangelistic Center.  However, while on Winter Patrol, restrooms will not be available.
  • Is there an age minimum?
    Yes.  We require all participants be above the age of 5 and that those under 18 be accompanied by a  parent, youth pastor or supervisor.
  • What should I bring with me to the Night with the Homeless?
    Bring items you will need to be warm at night and items you will need if you plan to spend the night.  However, please pack lightly, or keep items in your vehicle, since you will have to keep the items with you at all times.  Also, space around your sleeping area will be very limited.  Ideas include:

    • Sleeping Bag
    • Pillow
    • Sweatshirt
    • Hat
    • Earplugs
    • Snacks
    • Water
      Please do not bring the following items.

      • Coolers
      • Alcohol/Drugs
      • Pocketknives/Weapons of any kind
      • Tents
      • Air Mattresses
      • Pets
      • Computers, iPads, Stereo systems, etc.
        • Do not leave valuables on or near your sleeping area.  Keep them in your car instead.  The Night with the Homeless and New Life Evangelistic Center are not responsible for lost or stolen items during the event.
  • Is there parking available?
    There is a parking lot next to New Life Evangelistic Center.  However, we DO NOT own the lot, therefore we cannot predict or guarantee the parking fee that they will charge.  The daily non event charge is $5.00.  There are a couple of less expensive parking lots north of Locust Street off of 14th Street.  Parking meters are free after 4:00 p.m. and on weekends.  However, due to the barricades blocking the sidewalks and parking meters for a one block radius around New Life Evangelistic Center, you will have to park a little further away from the building if you plan on parking at a meter. There are parking meters on the following streets nearest to New Life Evangelistic Center:

    • 14th Street (north of Locust)
    • Washington Street (north of Locust)
    • 15th Street (west of 14th & Locust
    • Olive Street (one block south of Locust
