Press Conference Announcement | May 11, 2017

Thursday, May 11, at 10:00 am in front of St. Louis City Hall Rev. Larry Rice, with other activists from the St. Louis area and the homeless will hold a press conference.

In light of city plans to discontinue the 12th and Park shelter for women and children along with the newly opened shelter for men, within the next 10 days, the following will be explained:

  1. Progress on acquiring the use of a State facility.
  2. Efforts NLEC is taking to reopen the 1411 Locust building in the near future.
  3. Renewed efforts to change LRA (Land Reutilization Agency) guidelines to acquire these land banked city properties for the homeless and low income families.
  4. Placement of downtown homeless in St. Charles County Motels and trailer parks where it is easier for them to locate jobs.
  5. New steps being taken to help downtown homeless receive emergency supplies along with metro tickets (over 600 alone to be distributed Thursday).
  6. Review survey results among the homeless citing how they were directed by police to sleep on the Locust sidewalks prior to NLEC’s cease and desist order.
