Dear Friends,

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ.  When Jesus was born He was laid in a manger because there was no room in the Inn.  From birth to death Jesus identified with the homeless as he declared, “foxes have holes, birds have nests, but the Son of man has no where to lay His head” (Matt. 8:20).

It was Jesus who said, “…’I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’” (Matt. 25:40).

Since Christmas is the celebration of the birthday of Jesus I want to extend to you and your family an opportunity to directly help the homeless and hurting either Christmas Eve from 6:30 pm until 12:30 am or Christmas Day from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm.  On Christmas Eve you will be directly interacting with the homeless both in the shelter and on the streets while Christmas Day you will be feeding the hungry, hurting and homeless.

Each person or family participating is requested to get sponsors for each hour of their participation.  This is particularly important because it will help NLEC raise the over $50,000 that is needed just for the direct help services provided during the Christmas holidays.  These include special energy assistance, bus passes, gifts of Christmas food baskets, and transportation for stranded travelers and other Christmas assistance given.

Please call Richard now at (314) 421-3020 ext. 277 and let him know that you are using the sponsor sheet and which of the two Christmas events you will be participating in.

Thank you so very much for your faithful support.  Never before in over 39 years of service have I seen so many people who desperately need help.  Your prayerful support is urgently needed.  Any thing and everything you do is so deeply appreciated.
