Our cities and communities have a
tremendous need for additional assisted housing for women and children who
are victims of poverty, low-income, domestic violence and/or other
emergency situations. NLEC provides women and children with housing,
meals, clothing, and hygiene items 365 nights a year.
In addition to relief services for women and children in crisis situation,
NLEC provide a Training Program which combines relief services, education
and on-the-jobs training skills. The NLEC Training Program
is for individuals who desire to change their lives by learning
job skills and living in Christian Community. The training program provides
in-depth training and instruction of job skills such as: computer training,
reception work, renewable energy, television and radio production, hospitality,
and farming and livestock care. The basis of the NLEC
Training Program is founded upon: prayer, bible study, faith, hope,
responsibility, and Christian
Community. NLEC believes that healing is found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ
and the support of Christian Community. Below
are stories and testimonies of women who have received help and support
from NLEC.

"How I became homeless... it started in 2002 when my
boyfriend got arrested and I had to raise three boys on my own. I
didn't have any income so I had to go on welfare and the rent was to high
so I got evicted because of low-income. I applied for low-income
houseing and section eight, but couldn't get on them. I tried to
stay with relatives but that didn't work out either. So I've been
homeless ever since. This year in 2005 I came to Larry Rice
Ministries (NLEC) hopeing to find shelter and a place for my child.
I am very thankful for the NLEC shelter for women and children because
without it I would be on the streets. I've decided to go back to
school in the fall and take up pharmacy tech so that I can have a license
or certificate."

"I am 37 years old, I
have three children, three daughters ages 14, 10 and 2. I became
homeless on April 15, 2005. I came to New Life Evangelistic Center
on August 8, 2005, with my three children. The reason why I am
homeless is because I was living with some friends and they moved out of
their apartment, without telling me. I had no way to pay the rent.
Since I've been here at New Life I have turned my life over to God.
He has really been good to me and my children and we love being here at
New Life and I enjoy being in the Job Training Program For Women."

"I was in an abusive relationship, when I finally got
tired of the abuse my sister offered me to come to St. Louis for a fresh
start for me and my children. I found a job, car and living
foundation until I got my own place. But then one day I came home
and found out my sister had moved out and didn't tell the landlord I was
there. I then lost my job because we slept in my car for a week.
I went back to visit some friends while I waited for an apartment in St.
Louis, and my cared was towed with everything I owned. I was
stranded at the Amtrak train Station, no house, no car, no belongings.
This is how I became homeless."

“I never thought it would come to this…my three
children and me sleeping in a car night after night in the heat of summer
with no place to wash up. I know through experience we could become
bitter or better. We chose to become better as we put our trust in God.
Daily, He would provide us a place to wash up and eat but I knew He had
more. As we cried out to the Lord he heard our cry and brought us to New
Life Evangelistic Center. That was last May. Since then I have joined
the NLEC training program and God has revolutionized my life and that of
my children.”
