One of the most refreshing realities of being in prison was the fact that no one could hide that they were broken and in need of redemption. Prior to my arrest and incarceration I lacked sympathy for the imprisoned. Out of sight of out of mind. But when the shoe is on the other foot as the old saying goes, I became aware of the fact that there are no bad people only bad choices. Prison has given me pause to reflect, reevaluate and look at many previously held views in a totally new way. I would say that yes it has helped me to forgive for how can I deny forgiveness when I seek the same forgiveness from others. New Hope. New Mind. You have to keep praying.
