Since April 2017, the largest low-barrier walk-in shelter in Mid-America has been shut down. As a result of the city of St. Louis closing the New Life Evangelistic Center at 1411 Locust, multitudes have been forced to sleep outside in their cars, vacant buildings, or wherever they can lay their heads.

How many times have you felt like crying out lately, “Dear God, I can’t take it anymore.” When the bottom seems to be dropping out of life and we feel the pressure mounting, the God – talk disassociated from the tragic events at hand (the present reality) only makes the problem worse. It is not theories or talk that is needed, but an awakening to the fact that God is present in the most hopeless of circumstances and situations.

I have been incarcerated almost three decades for attempted Capital Murder on a Police Officer (case No. 97-425.172). A crime that I did not commit.

Loneliness can feel like a dark, dank, musty prison cell. Its cold, hard, unforgiving walls seem to inch closer together. The worst part is the utter silence felt deep in the heart. No one can understand. No one can break through the prison doors. No one can hear, or see, or know the deep pangs of utter separation. What hope does God truly offer His children who battle loneliness? What help does the Bible offer to struggling Christians?

It is so easy to get lost in loneliness. Loneliness can creep up on anyone at any time. Everyone has felt lonely at one time or another! When a loved one dies, or a person gets a divorce, or ends up homeless, they naturally encounter loneliness. Therapists call this situation loneliness because it is a temporary condition. Situation loneliness is different from chronic loneliness in that chronic loneliness thrusts the individual into a destructive cycle.

“Why are you always like this! You never listen to me. You never care about me. All you do is just think about yourself!” Resentment, anger, distrust, and pain fuel these statements. I believe it's safe to say that every single person has experienced conflict in their relationships. We have all made statements like this, or worse, to loved ones, family, friends, coworkers, and strangers. Conflict in our relationships is a fact of life. It is as sure as death and taxes. Christ

With over 5,000 homes damaged or destroyed, mostly in one of the poorest areas of St. Louis, the need can feel overwhelming. But we remember how Jesus fed the 5,000 with just a few loaves and fish. I believe He can multiply your gift today to bring healing and hope to our city.
